Aqua One sponges are designed to remove larger particles from your aquarium. The sponge is made from high grade open pored foam, so the water that passes through the sponge will be cleaned of most larger particles. The sponge will serve as a Biological and Mechanical filter, essential to the health of your aquarium. 

Sponges are disposable. However, they will last longer than Wool filter pad. Your sponge should be replaced as soon as it loses shape. Cleaning of your sponge is necessary when the accumulation of dirt and biological waste causes the sponge to block.
