The enamel-like, purple flowers in Spring make a striking contrast to the green, deeply lobed foliage of this attractive native. Alyogyne heugelii is hardy and quick growing with an upright habit, suiting an open, sunny to semi-shaded site in well drained light to heavy soils, however it can tolerate inundation. Alyogyne is commonly known as the native hibiscus, producing delicate tulip shaped flowers that are purple. The needle-like foliage provides the perfect backdrop in order for these stunning flowers to standout. This evergreen shrub can be used in many situations including an informal hedge or in Native gardens. Alyogyne prefers full sun exposure. Alyogyne requires low maintenance. Water well until established, occasional infrequent watering may be required during warmer periods. If required use a native, low-phosphorous fertiliser. Will respond well to pruning which can be done after flowering.
