AG Lime

AG Lime is a cost-effective and safe way of improving your pond’s water quality. It increases the alkalinity and hardness levels in your pond, which is better for the health of aquatic life. AG Lime is mostly made up of Calcium Carbonate, which Nitrifying bacteria utilise for their metabolic processes and to maintain a stable environment for their growth and function. This bacteria is what helps to break down toxic Ammonia and Nitrite creating a safe environment for fish. Having adequate Carbonate Alkalinity also helps to maintain a stable pH.

Liming also has advantages during the growing season (Summer). It can help to disrupt algae blooms by reducing the availability of phosphorus which is a key growing nutrient for algae - reducing their growth and proliferation. Be cautious as to not use too much as over liming can be harmful to aquatic plants if the water becomes too alkaline. This prevents plants from absorbing essential nutrients for growth.
